This post is dedicated to my self proclaimed biggest fan Guttybear.
Guttybear as you know, we are all born into a certain set of circumstances. We have no say in these circumstances at the outset and sometimes that can hurt us. Sometimes the people around us can be cruel. Sometimes our suffering seems endless and pointless and our lives seem bound to be futile and unpleasant. And yet somehow there are still countless tales of people rising above their oppression to become something amazing, in spite of or perhaps because of what’s happened to them.
Everything is composed of atoms. Every single thing you see around you is composed of trillions of beyond microscopic particles. Its a little unnerving and also sort of liberating to know how much is happening we all are unaware of. These atoms bond together to form molecules. In every cubic centimetre of sea air there is roughly 45 billion billion molecules, and since each molecule consists of two or more atoms that means there are quite a few atoms out there. One cubic centimetre is roughly the size of a sugar cube. Now imagine how many sugar cubes it would take to compose something on the scale of your body. In short, you are made up of a lot of atoms.
We are each very atomically numerous. After we die our atoms eventually disperse out into the universe. However most of them will end up staying on planet Earth and will be recycled into new organisms and matter. Its thought that every single person alive today will have up to a billion atoms (remembering how small a proportion that really is compared to how many we have) of any historical figure you care to mention, Shakespeare, Buddha, Jesus. All these people have died and had their atoms dispersed back into the world to further form more matter and life.
For those who try good luck, to those who accept the futility of it, I’ll continue to explain my reasoning.
Allow me to begin with a story. Adam and Eve were given one simple command to continue living in the garden of Eden. Don’t eat the apple. Adam and Eve were created in gods image. They ate the apple. What this means is either God is an imperfect creator and created beings that weren’t in his image and therefore were susceptible to sin. Or God created flawed beings with the intention of having their sins manifest through their eating of the apple. Giving him the opportunity to exile them. This makes God an asshole, and also imperfect because he’d be motivated not by benevolence but by pride. Pride in his own superiority as the one and only creator. Which he later told us was a sin, the hypocrite. So that either makes God not omnipotent or it makes him a sinner. Either way it means the bible is wrong because it tells us God is neither.
This is going to be a really short post because dieting is actually really simple. It’s just that most people don’t want to go through the work of eating well day in and day out and would way rather eat a bag of chips a night and have a burger for lunch and then complain that this “eat anything you want” diet isn’t working…. Yeah. So I’m going to cite a study I found which sums up all you need to know about dieting pretty concisely. They took thousands of studies, research papers and the like and condensed all the good advice they found into seven words. Want to know what those words are?
Once when I was a kid. I had a friend names Sean Saunders. He may not have been a good friend, but he was the only one I had. He was the class clown, and I was his quiet friend. We did everything together. Ate lunch at each other’s houses, played videogames together after school and spent every moment at school together. Then one day in grade 6 he told me he was moving away. I was scared. What would I do without my only friend? Well I had no choice in the matter and he left. I was forced to make some new friends.
