When I’m focused on the task at hand the world may as well not exist. There are times when I’m working where I’ll have 10 different things that need to be done immediately. This gives my life immediate clarity. My worries and thoughts of the future disappear. Suddenly there is no Grasping Triumph, there are no girls or Think Better, all that exists is the task at hand.
I’m extremely anti social during these times. Coworkers and friends talking to me may as well be joking with thin air.
These times are also when I’m the happiest. This mindset is the same one I bring to writing these posts. Generally I do the bulk of my writing on the train and the hour long trip home will suddenly disappear when I have an article on my mind.
I strengthen this focus through meditation every day, but it exists to some degree in everyone. You know when you have a task in front of you, whatever it may be that you have the potential to disappear into it. To think into the task and become one with it as a master craftsman does his tools. But you probably don’t. You don’t because you’re afraid of what you’ll miss. You’re afraid of fully committing to the project and not having it work out. Because suddenly the excuse “well if I’d tried harder I could’ve done it better” disappears because in these moments of pure focus there are no excuses or delays, there is only the task and you’re will to complete it.
Challenge time my friends. Bring this focus to the next task you need completed, whatever it may be. And I bet you you’ll surprise yourself. I bet you that any worries or anxieties you have about your ability to complete this project will disappitate like the mirage they really are.
Because in the end, you and you’re actions are all that really exist. So make existence beautiful.
